Rainbow Bristol
After studying business and catering at college Huw’s first job saw him help run a hotel in a French ski resort. After running his own carpet cleaning company for a few years Huw bought the Rainbow franchise in 1994 making him the longest serving Rainbow franchisee in the network.
Huw joined the BDMA just after it was formed and the company supports the industry with all technicians joining and becoming accredited. In 1999 Huw won the accolade of the BFA franchisee of the year ( this is an annual award across the entire franchise industry).
Away from the restoration business Huw spends almost all his spare time in sport. He is an ISIA qualified ski instructor and spends most of this spare time in the winter skiing. As well as his passion for skiing Huw is a very keen road cyclist & runner. He also enjoys a round of golf and watching rugby, football & cricket.
Paul started in the industry as a trainee technician with Rainbow in 1996 at the age of 17. Paul quickly developed a passion for the industry and over the years of employment slowly climbing the ladder to technician, senior technician and more recently to operations manager. Paul has gained a huge amount of technical knowledge by experience, training and by dedicated self development. Paul is an accredited BDMA technician and trace, access and leak detection engineer. Paul is passionate about helping customers and giving them the best technical solution and also passing on his skills and helping to train and develop other technicians.
In June 2024 Rainbow Cardiff underwent a very successful “management buy in” whereby long-standing employee Paul invested into the business and became the Operations Director.
Away from the industry Paul spends time with his young family and enjoys quality time and days away with his children. Paul enjoys reading and watching documentaries.
John has been in the insurance industry for over 20 years and in that time has gained a wealth of knowledge and experience in claims management. 15 of those years have been with Rainbow Restoration. John worked for a National Loss Adjusting company for 2 years dealing with all types of insured perils before joining Rainbow. John also worked for a National Broker dealing with private clients, high net worth and professional service groups.
In June 2024 Rainbow Cardiff underwent a very successful “management buy in” whereby long-standing employee John invested into the business to become the administration Director.
Away from work John has a young family and spends most of his time taking and watching his son play football. Indeed John is now coaching the team aswell.
Rachael has worked for Rainbow Restoration for more than 16 years. In addition to being an experienced administrator Rachael runs our website, does our marketing and our social media campaigns.
Rachael has worked in many departments across Rainbow, working her way from claims handler, to social media and is now also doing the accounts. Rachael is very customer service focused and is passionate that our clients receive the best possible service.
Away from work Rachael enjoys quality time with her partner and little boy and spending time with friends and family.
Rachael also spends a lot of time doing Charity work.
Martyn started out by attending college to become an auto mechanic. 5 years later Martyn started with Rainbow Restoration and he has been an important member of our team for over 25 years, firstly as a trainee technician then progressing to become a senior technician and in 2023 was promoted to project manager.
Martyn’s considerable experience means that he is often used to train and develop newer members of staff and he enjoys passing his skills and experience onto them. He is also very keen to attend more courses and develop his own knowledge.
Martyn is a proud father of 3 children, which when not entertaining them on weekends, he likes to watch motor sports, rugby, football and play golf on occasions.
He also enjoys cooking and relaxes by watching tv series or movies.
Kate has been at Rainbow for just over 5 years but previously has over ten years experience in the insurance claims industry having worked in travel, household, personal injury and industrial disease claims.
When she is not spending time with her family, Kate likes to keep fit and is a zumba instructor. She also likes walking her dog, baking and reading.
During the summer months she volunteers at a local lifeguard club where she helps to educate children and young people about water safety.
Nick has plenty of experience with Rainbow Restoration and has worked for Rainbow since 2005. He joined Cardiff branch in 2024.
Nick is highly proficient in DIY and demonstrates a versatile skill set, allowing him to competently undertake a wide range of tasks, He consistently seeks active involvement in all aspects of the work.
Nick enjoys watching sports. particularly football. He has been deeply involved in his local team, proudly serving as a club secretary for more than 30 years – a testament to his dedication and commitment to the sport and community. He also takes great pleasure in spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Mike is our longest serving member of staff having joined the team way back in 1994. This makes Mike one of the longest serving technicians in the industry. Previously Mike had worked as an architect’s technician.
Mike’s day to day role is mainly to run the fire restoration and large cleaning projects which has meant that he has trained many of our staff over the years. As well as being BDMA qualified Mike has IPAF and PASMA qualifications. In addition to flood restoration work Mike is very experienced in carpet and upholstery cleaning. Many years ago Mike oversaw training of other key staff such as Paul and Martyn.
Outside of work Mike is busy with his family and his main hobby is archery and he also enjoys reading and attending food festivals.
Sue has lived in Cardiff all her life and joined us in 2023 in a part time capacity. Sue works in our restoration centre in our warehouse and carries out assessment and processing of customers contents and laundry.
Sue has a career of retail experience running charity shops and therefore has tremendous experience of sorting and dealing with peoples possessions. Sue enjoys working in a busy environment.
Outside of work Sue enjoys swimming and keeping fit. One of her hobbies is upcycling and repurposing furniture items to give them a new lease of life.
David, who is from Pembrokeshire, has worked in the electrical appliance industry for all of his life. Initially he completed an apprenticeship in Radio and TV Servicing. After working for a national TV rental company for 7 years he emigrated to New Zealand where he stayed for 30 years working for a number of companies in the electronics servicing industry.
David has a son and daughter who were born and still live in New Zealand. He thoroughly enjoyed the New Zealand lifestyle and spent family holidays camping and exploring the North Island. On returning to Wales David worked in TV servicing in Pembrokeshire before joining Rainbow where he has worked since 2008. His expertise was used to restore smoke and flood damaged electrical and electronic items. He also serviced and PAT tested the company drying equipment which eventually took up the majority of his time. Since his retirement from full time work he has continued to do this on a part time basis.
David now lives in Cardiff with his partner and likes to visit parts of the UK that he never got to see prior to emigrating. He also likes to research his family history and reading both fiction and non-fiction . This together with repairing all sorts of items family and friends seem to believe he can fix, keeps him busy in his retirement. Recently David even fully restored an original 1956 Wurlitzer juke box!
Katie joined Rainbow in March 2025, she is our newest claims handler and is settling in very well.
Katie previously worked in contracts management overseeing construction related projects. She also has knowledge in the insurance industry and therefore understands the importance of the role as a claims handler here at Rainbow.
In her spare time Katie enjoys days out and spending quality time with her young family.
Michael is new to the insurance industry and joined us in 2023. He previously worked in online retail as an ops administrator.
Michael is a father to two children and they love to travel as a family and learn about different cultures.
Michael is a latin/salsa DJ and enjoys salsa dancing. He dabbles in photography and takes photos of his travels and some portraits of people.
Michael does Krav Maga and enjoys watching and playing football. Especially the Copa America to support Peru.
Paula joined Rainbow Cardiff in 2024, and has many years of insurance industry work behind her.
Paula likes walking and completed the twmbarllwm Good Friday walk in 2023.
Her interests include gardening and growing Dahilas. She puts the tubas away for winter and replants them in spring to give them a new life.
Her favourite animals are ducks and cats. In the past she fostered cats – until she adopted Dodger her current cat that she homed after he experienced a difficult start in life and had been in a shelter for over a year.
Paula enjoys spending her annual leave with her twin sister at her apartment in Spain (Hacienda Requiem in Murcia area) and she describes it as a really beautiful and peaceful place.
Jac joined Rainbow in January 2023 from a non insurance background. Jac quickly advanced from a support technician to a fully trained technician in a short period.
Jac enjoys watching and playing rugby and his hobbies include mechanics, which has fascinated him since he was a child. He enjoys taking apart engines, fixing up old cars and learning how different mechanical systems work. Following his love of fixing cars, Jac worked in the automotive industry before finding his place at Rainbow.
Rhys worked for Rainbow Cardiff several years ago and after a brief time away, has now returned to us as a support technician. In his former roles, he gained valuable experience working in partnership with the local council.
As a support technician Rhys provides support to our BDMA technicians, manages customer returns, assists the fire team and undertakes various manual labour responsibilities.
Outside of work, Rhys enjoys motorbiking, socialising with friends and spending quality time with his family – especially his son.
Dave who is our Bristol based BDMA technician, he has been a restoration technician for more than 8 years and he joined Cardiff Bristol franchise in January 2023.
He enjoys gaming and playing football.
Family time is very important to Dave and he enjoys spending time with his children outside of work.
